In light of recent events regarding the ethics of using consumer data, Scott McDonald, ARF CEO & President has called for the establishment of a new set of industry standards to govern both research data collection and consumer protection.
At this event, the ARF is partnering with AMA New York and GreenBook to get industry input in a town hall format. Both ARF members and non-members will then be encouraged to voice their input in person or via livestream, regarding the following issues and more:
- What ethical standards should apply to “secondary data?”
- What are consumers’ rights about approving the uses of their data?
- What responsibilities do researchers have in protecting consumers from harm that may come from misuse of their data?
- Existing guidelines will be discussed, as well as POVs from consumer advocacy groups and experts on GDRP.
The events reported in the news have made it clear that another code of rules must be implemented for 2018 and beyond. One that respects consumers. And one that recognizes that what is based on the ethical is also good for our business.
